Glow Up Video: Show Your Change in Photos

4 min read

A glow up video shows how a person has changed over time, from the first photo to the latest, in one smooth video. Put your photos in order and each look flows into the next, with no editing and no special skills.

What counts as a glow up

  • Childhood to now: the classic, from a baby photo to the person you are today.
  • School years: a look at each year, from your first day to the last.
  • Style and look over time: hair, clothes and how you present yourself, as it changed.
  • A personal milestone: a before-and-after of a year, a move or a new chapter.

Vidotory follows one person through the photos you give it and builds the video between them. It is not an age or beauty filter: the change you see is the change in your own pictures.

Choosing photos for a glow up

The strongest glow up videos have clear steps:

  1. Pick one photo per stage, not five from the same week.
  2. Choose photos where the face is clear and not covered by sunglasses or a heavy filter.
  3. Keep the angle similar when you can, for example a front-facing portrait each time. Very different angles and lighting can make a transition look less smooth.
  4. Put them in order from the oldest to the newest.

With 5 photos (Starter, $4.90) you get about 20 seconds; 8 photos give about 35 seconds. If you are unsure, see how to choose photos for a growing up video.

Ideas for sharing it

  • On social media, as a short post.
  • As a gift for a friend or partner, using photos of them over the years.
  • For yourself, as a keepsake of how far you have come.

Only use photos of someone else when they are happy for you to do so.

Make it in four steps

  1. Gather 2 to 24 photos of the person (JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC).
  2. Put them in order from youngest to oldest.
  3. Choose a plan and pay once. No subscription.
  4. Download the MP4 and share it anywhere.

If one transition does not look right, redo just that one: Starter includes 2 redos and larger plans 3 to 5. Photos and videos are deleted automatically after 30 days, so download your MP4 before then.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Photos out of order. The video goes from the first photo to the last, so the order you set is the order people see.
  • Hidden faces. Sunglasses, masks, hands and heavy filters make a transition harder to read. Pick a photo where the face is clear.
  • Too many similar photos. Two photos a year apart look alike. Space the ages out evenly.
  • Heavily filtered photos. They hide the face and make the change hard to read.
  • Photos too close in time. If two photos look the same, the transition has nothing to show.

FAQ

Is a glow up video the same as an age filter?

No. It is not a filter and does not add age to a photo. It builds a video from your own photos, from one to the next.

Do I need old photos?

No. You can use photos from a few years, as long as there is a visible change from one to the next. Old photos give the biggest contrast.

How many photos should I use?

Between 2 and 24. Five make a short video of about 20 seconds; 8 to 12 give a smoother story.

Can I make one for a friend or partner?

Yes, with photos of them over the years, and with their agreement.

Are my photos kept?

Photos and videos are deleted automatically 30 days after you create the project. Your photos are used only to make your video. Read the privacy policy.

What if a transition looks wrong?

Redo that one transition. Starter includes 2 redos, and larger plans include 3 to 5. If the video fails to generate, you get a full refund; the rest is in the refund policy.

Is there a watermark or a subscription?

No. You pay once and download an MP4 without a watermark.
